About Us

Founded in 1915, the Women’s Institute began as a grassroots movement devoted to revitalising rural communities and encourage food production during the First World War.

What started as small local branches quickly grew into a national network, united by the shared goals of improving women’s lives, education, and empowerment.

Over time, the organisation became a formidable advocate for social change, championing issues from food security to health and equality.

The West Chiltington WI was founded in 1920 and our centenary was commemorated with a tree planting in the grounds of the Village Hall and an afternoon tea at the Nyetimber Vineyard.

There is a varied programme of events, with excellent speakers to suit a variety of interests. There are a number of activity groups which give you a chance to meet fellow members and make new friends in a smaller, less formal setting. We also hold pop by cafe get togethers, regular outings and other social events.

We have a thriving membership who meet on the second Thursday in the month (excluding August) at 2.00 p.m. at the West Chiltington Village Hall, Mill Road, RH20 2PZ
